Summary of Surah Al-Zalzalah
Surah Al-Zalzalah, the 99th surah of the Quran, highlights the significance of the Day of Judgment and the accountability of all human beings for their actions. It emphasizes that even the smallest of deeds will be weighed and evaluated by Allah. It stresses the importance of striving for righteousness and warns of the consequences of neglecting one’s responsibilities. It consists of 8 verses.
The surah begins by stating that when the earth is shaken with a mighty earthquake, it will disclose its burdens and bring forth what is within it. This metaphorical shaking of the earth symbolizes the Day of Judgment, when everything hidden will be made apparent.
Surah Al-Zalzalah affirms that on that day, people’s deeds, whether large or small, will be weighed and evaluated by Allah. Even the weight of a small deed, equivalent to an atom, will be taken into account. This highlights the precision and thoroughness of Allah’s judgment.
The surah mentions that on the Day of Judgment, people will witness the consequences of their actions. Whoever has done an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever has done an atom’s weight of evil will also see it. This emphasizes the absolute justice of Allah and His fairness in holding people accountable.
Surah Al-Zalzalah warns that those whose scales are heavy with good deeds will be rewarded with everlasting bliss in Paradise. On the other hand, those whose scales are light will face a severe reckoning and will be cast into Hellfire.
The surah concludes by affirming that the ultimate goal is to please Allah and seek His pleasure. It reminds believers of their responsibilities and encourages them to strive for righteousness and good deeds, knowing that they will be weighed and evaluated on the Day of Judgment.

5. having been inspired by your Lord ˹to do so˺.
6. On that Day people will proceed in separate groups to be shown ˹the consequences of˺ their deeds.
